  • Our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality sports, arts, and enrichment programs that empower Detroit youth to grow physically, socially, and creatively — all while having fun in a safe, supportive environment.

  • Our programs are open to all youth ages who live in the city of Detroit or surrounding areas. We welcome all skill levels and backgrounds.

  • We host activities at Detroit parks, recreation centers, and schools — including sites like Belle Isle Athletic Complex, Tindal Rec Center, and other community venues.

  • Yes! In addition to organized sports leagues and clinics, we provide arts and crafts workshops, STEAM-based activities, and leadership opportunities for kids who want to express creativity and build confidence.

  • You can register directly through our website at playforacause.org/request-to-play, where you’ll find upcoming program dates, costs (if applicable), and registration forms.

  • We currently offer basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football, kickball, and more — depending on the season and facility availability.

  • Most of our leagues are recreational and focused on skill-building, teamwork, and fun. Some programs offer advanced or tournament-level play for older or more experienced participants.

  • Basic equipment is provided, but players should wear athletic shoes and bring personal gear when required (e.g., water bottle, shin guards).

  • Yes. All of our coaches and staff undergo background checks and youth safety training before working with participants.

  • We run rotating workshops that include painting, drawing, jewelry making, clay modeling, tie-dye, and themed holiday projects. STEAM-based creative sessions are also available throughout the year.

  • No — all materials and supplies are included unless otherwise noted.

  • We strive to keep our programs affordable or free through grants, donations, and community support. Some activities may have small registration fees to cover materials or facility costs.

  • Parents are encouraged to attend events, volunteer, and support their child’s participation. We offer several family days and community events each season.

  • Yes! As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

  • Outdoor activities may be rescheduled in case of inclement weather. Participants will receive email or text updates regarding cancellations or make-up days.

  • Play For A Cause Detroit helps provide play around Detroit. From raising money to improve parks and play spaces, to the DREAM Mobile program, which brings play to local schools, camps and after school programs.
